Fees
Classes are 30 minutes in length and are priced at $36 (inclusive of GST).
Teaching Schedule
Flam Tap Drumming Academy follows the school term dates set by the New Zealand Ministry of Education. By prior arrangement, lessons can continue through the school holidays.
Adult students may continue with an uninterrupted lesson schedule.
Curriculum
I bring a holistic approach to teaching the drum kit, covering hand technique, foot technique, drumming rudiments (from the flam, roll and paradiddle groupings), music theory, sight reading, and examination technique. Playing the drum kit is not complete without knowledge of styles and grooves, and my curriculum includes Rock, Funk, Swing, Shuffle, Reggae, Disco, Latin (Mambo, Salza, Mozambique, Afro Cuban, Samba, Bossa Nova) and more!
For students sitting drum kit examinations, lessons typically focus on the examination content, including technique, pieces, exercises, sight reading, theory and musical knowledge.
For non-examination students, lessons usually alternate between

rudimental exercises on practice pad and application of rudiments to the drum kit; and
-
drum kit playing using a variety of sources including method books, worksheets developed by Ajit for targeting specific developmental areas, popular songs and preparation for performances.
Lesson plans are tailored to the student’s own learning style.
Performances
Students playing for a performance may ask for my attendance at the venue to provide helpful guidance, support and encouragement before going on stage. Attendance is subject to my availability, and a fee may apply.

Increase Musicality
When students learn the drum kit, we develop their musicality. We believe that in the right environment, anyone can learn music. Anyone can cultivate his or her talent, through a systematic process of: listening (to the great musicians of past and present); internalizing (what they hear); memorization (including muscle memory); and a persistent commitment to practice. Repetition is the seed of ability, indeed good environmental conditions the source of superior abilities.
Gain Musical Literacy
Musical literacy opens many doors in the world of music, so we believe in incorporating music theory and sight-reading into the drum kit curriculum to prepare our students for stepping into greatness.
Master Technical Skills
In our drum studio environment, every student leaves his or her lesson with a sense of accomplishment and a desire to return. We provide a learning environment where the student is encouraged in their development, where technique is gently corrected, where complex ideas are simply explained, and where achievements are celebrated. No learning challenge is too big to overcome – we will find a way to help. We understand everyone has a preferred learning style, and we will adapt our teaching to increase your musicality and technical skills behind the drum kit.

Learning music develops the soul. A noble heart is the result of sensitivity, discipline and endurance. We recognize that humility is necessary, to learn music from others who have accomplished great things on the drum kit. Success in music transfers to other areas of our lives, and through music education, we can improve ourselves and grow our relationships with others.
